This year Credit Education Week runs from November 14th to 18th.
For those that have never heard of Credit Education Week, it is a program that is run every November to promote financial literacy across Canada. This year’s topic is The Sandwich Generation. The term “sandwich generation” refers to people who find themselves raising children and at the same time providing care giving services to their elderly or aging relatives. The burden of providing care for both young and old can have a tremendous impact on the care provider’s finances.
When you make the decision to start a family you are aware and hopefully prepared for the financial changes you face. If you were a two income family you know that one income will be gone or reduced for a period of time and you expect that your expenses will increase as your family size grows. What happens when you are unexpectedly expected to care for an elderly family member? What if this family member needs a level of care that will prevent you from returning to work? What if this family member has no retirement income and is solely dependent upon you?
Do you find yourself in this situation? If so, you may benefit from one of the many Credit Education Week seminars scheduled in and around the GTA area.
If you are already in a financial crisis and are looking at your options, we would be happy to speak with you.
